Michael was visiting Costa Rica at the time of his disappearance. On October 18 2009, he arrived in Tamarindo, a town located on the northern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. He checked into the hotel Villas Macondo on 3pm and was last seen by hotel staff a short time later. He never returned to the hotel where all his stuff (suitcase, toiletries and valuables) were still there and perfectly organized.
